TRIP TO KHARDUNG LA AND NUBRA VALLEY

Taking an overnight trip to Nubra Valley in Ladakh through the Khardung La pass, the gateway to one of the most enchanted and unexplored landscapes, is an experience one must put right on the top of their bucket list, as a traveller and adventurer. Situated at an elevated height of 5359 meters, Khardung La is located in the Leh district of the Indian Union Territory and is acclaimed to be the highest motorable pass in the world. Lying on the major caravan route linking Leh to Kashgar in Central Asia, Khardung La is significant and historic.

 Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, Khardung La pass was constructed in 1976 and made accessible to motor vehicles in 1988 and is of utmost strategic importance as it is used to carry goods up to the Siachen Glacier.

Siachen Glacier :

Siachen Glacier has Located around 40 km from Leh by road; the best time to visit this mountain pass is between the months from March to May or during September- October as the region witnesses an abundant availability of Sunshine during the summer, with a temperature of around 21 degrees celsius, although the nights are comparatively cold and can experience and significant drop down to 7 degrees Celsius or below.

Weather in Siachen Glacier :

Weather in Siachen Glacier, especially during the monsoon and the winter, is nearly impossible to access the roads due to incessant rainfall or heavy snowfall, causing road blockage for tourists. And, as the pass roads are usually not the most comfortable conditions due to melted snow, landslides, and broken rocks, it is imperative to have the trip pre-planned.
